20t Double Girder Crane for Pro-Mil Engineering

Experts in Overhead Crane Installations

Project Introduction

Pro-Mil Engineering Ltd is a leading subcontract precision engineering facility based in Central England, specialising in large CNC milling of engineering components up to 50 tonnes. Their expertise lies in producing complex, oversized, and prototype parts with unrivalled accuracy and reliability.

With over 100 years of combined industry knowledge, Pro-Mil is a trusted partner for manufacturers worldwide, delivering precision solutions that help clients reduce costs, shorten lead times, and maintain strict quality standards.

Granada Cranes designed, manufactured, and installed a 20,000kg double girder overhead travelling crane for Pro-Mil’s machining facility.

This project was particularly challenging — and unique — for three key reasons:

  • Omis Open Barrel Hoist – Unlike conventional hoists with rope guides, this hoist uses a guide roller system for rope management. It’s a rare configuration that provides true vertical lift and long-term durability.
  • Tight Headroom Application – The crane was engineered to fit snugly into a low-clearance environment, ensuring maximum lifting height without altering the existing structure.
  • Specialist Omis Equipment – Built using Omis components, the crane combines Granada’s UK fabrication expertise with world-class Italian hoist technology, delivering precision and performance.

The Results

The installation gave Pro-Mil a 20t lifting system perfectly tailored to its precision machining operations. Despite the tight headroom constraints, Granada Cranes delivered a solution that maximised lifting height while maintaining full compliance and safety.

The Omis open barrel hoist with guide roller system sets this project apart. It ensures true vertical lifting and smooth operation, while reducing wear and tear compared to traditional rope guide systems. Combined with inverter-driven motion and advanced safety features, the crane is engineered for accuracy, durability, and reduced long-term maintenance costs.

For Pro-Mil, handling large, heavy engineering components demands absolute reliability and precision. This project demonstrates how Granada Cranes can engineer specialist overhead cranes for complex environments, combining UK manufacturing with advanced Omis technology.

The result is a crane system that not only supports Pro-Mil’s current workload but also future-proofs their facility for years to come.
