As the UK’s leading manufacturer of refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), Dennis Eagle has been setting the standard in waste and recycling solutions for over a century. Their vehicles are trusted worldwide by both public and private sector organisations, designed with safety, reliability, and efficiency at the core.
To continue supporting their production operations, Dennis Eagle turned to Granada Cranes – a long-standing partner – to replace an ageing crane at their facility. In May, we designed, built, and installed a 6,000kg single girder overhead travelling crane, tailored to the unique demands of their workshop. The new system ensures safe, reliable lifting for heavy components used in the manufacture of refuse trucks, while improving efficiency and compliance with the latest safety standards.
The Challenge

As a returning customer, Dennis Eagle required a replacement crane for their existing workshop setup. Their goal was to modernise lifting operations with a more efficient, reliable, and compliant solution while keeping downtime to a minimum.
The project needed to deliver:
- A safe working load of 6,000kg to handle large components in vehicle assembly.
- Enhanced operator control and smoother load movement.
- A long-term solution built to the latest safety standards.
The Solution

Granada Cranes designed, built, and installed a 6,000kg single girder overhead travelling crane at Dennis Eagle’s facility in May.
Key features included:
- Single Box Beam Girder – fabricated in the UK from certified steel by coded welder fabricators.
- SWF Electric Wire Rope Hoist – ND04L6DEP model, providing fast and precise lifting capability.
- Frequency Inverter Control – fitted as standard to ensure smooth acceleration and braking, reducing wear on brakes, gearbox, and trolley wheels.
- Mobile Pendant Control – mounted to the crane and moveable along the bridge, offering flexibility for operators.

The Results

The new 6,000kg single girder crane has already made a significant difference to Dennis Eagle’s operations. By replacing the outdated system with a modern, inverter-controlled crane, they’ve gained smoother load handling, reduced wear on key components, and improved operator safety.
For a manufacturer handling large chassis sections and heavy-duty vehicle parts, reliable lifting is critical to keeping production lines moving. This installation ensures Dennis Eagle can maintain efficiency, minimise downtime, and remain fully compliant with UK lifting regulations such as LOLER and PUWER.
In short, the new system doesn’t just lift more reliably – it helps safeguard Dennis Eagle’s long-term productivity and their reputation as a leader in the RCV industry.
