Granada’s onshore division has recently completed a contract to specify and install the lifting and handling equipment for a new 50,000 sq. ft. Research Centre for Dunphy Combustion, leaders in combustion design and manufacture since 1964.
With blue chip clients including Audi, BMW, Coca-Cola and Nestle, Dunphy designs, manufactures, installs and maintains a wide range of combustion equipment, digital control solutions and turnkey prefabricated, packaged boiler houses. Dunphy’s new Research Centre now houses all the company’s R&D programme teams in purpose-built labs and is located adjacent to the main manufacturing plant on their ten acre site in Rochdale.
For this new build facility, Granada worked with the architects from the outset, providing advice at the building’s design stage. Richard Lewis, sales engineer at GMH explains,
“To assist the architects and to help ensure that our handling solutions and the new building work together to the optimum level, we supplied all the crane loading data and CAD drawings to expedite civil engineering works. This is a service we offer at Granada, to ensure that supporting structures can be designed and built with accurate data, helping to make the design and installation process run smoothly.”
Granada specified and supplied four cranes, each with a SWL of 60Tonnes. Each crane has a lift height of 9 metres, with a span of 30 metres. All the cranes are radio-controlled, with the capability of tandem use to achieve a SWL of 120 Tonnes.
The new centre contains special bays for boiler, burner and fuel testing programmes, and Granada’s cranes are facilitating Dunphy’s research programmes, which are currently focused on the development of environmentally sustainable, low NOx, high efficiency combustion.
On completing the installation, Richard commented,
“Being headquartered in Rochdale ourselves, it’s very encouraging to see companies in our region expanding and investing. Equally, since Granada was recognised this year as one of the top firms with the fastest-growing overseas sales, in the Sunday Times International Track 200, we’re delighted to be appointed by a company such as Dunphy, whose worldwide export credentials have led to several Queen’s Awards for Export and Innovation.”
This latest contract with Dunphy Combustion adds to Granada’s extensive portfolio of onshore projects for clients in diverse sectors including manufacturing, automotive, pharmaceutical and aerospace.
