Granada specified by world-leading aircraft engine manufacturer

Granada Material Handling recently completed the design and manufacture of engine build cells for a world-leading aircraft engine manufacturing client.

The new Granada engine build cells lift the 787 Dreamliner aero engine from an incoming transport shuttle for routine service work to be carried out. Once suspended from a series of powered trolleys, the engine can be easily separated, if required, and component parts can be transferred from the engine to outside the build area using the integral hoists.

The whole engine can be raised and lowered using screw jacks, making it easier for maintenance engineers to carry out work at a comfortable height. These screw jacks are fitted with ball screw spindles, associated shafts and bevel gearboxes, and a motor drive system for closed loop control including a fail-safe brake. Also included is a fully regenerative drive. All motions are invertor-controlled, ensuring smooth movement of loads. Granada’s design and installation includes a safety mechanism to ensure that, when the engine fan is fitted, the engine assembly cannot be lowered into the floor.
