The Smarter Upgrade

Crane modernisation is an increasingly popular solution for companies with older crane systems. Rather than replacing the full structure, we upgrade key elements like hoists, control systems, drives, and safety features. This approach breathes new life into your existing equipment — improving performance, meeting current standards, and reducing long-term costs.

Modernisation is also essential when full crane removal simply isn’t an option. We work with major manufacturers like GE and Smurfit Kappa, where large cranes have been surrounded by decades of facility expansion. In these cases, removal is physically impossible, and modernisation becomes the only practical, cost-effective route.

If you’re looking to extend the life of your crane, enhance safety, or adapt to new production demands, our modernisation service is the perfect fit.

Crane Modernisation FAQs

Crane modernisation is the process of upgrading key components of your existing crane — such as the hoist, controls, electrics, or drive systems — without replacing the entire crane structure. It’s a cost-effective way to improve performance, safety, and compliance with current standards.

In many cases, you don’t need a full replacement. If your crane’s main structure is sound, we can modernise the essential working parts. This is particularly useful for large cranes in older facilities where removal is physically difficult or disruptive to operations.

We can upgrade a wide range of components, including hoists, control panels, inverter drives, safety systems, and electrical wiring. We also fit modern radio control systems and can install dual hoist systems or load summation tech where needed.

Not a problem. If a part is no longer manufactured, we can often reverse engineer it or suggest a modern alternative. We source parts from across the globe and work with leading suppliers including SWF, Stahl, Liftket, and more.

Common chain hoists (like Stahl or Liftket) can be available in under 24 hours. Wire rope hoists typically take 6–8 weeks, while full crane components are generally 12 weeks from order to installation. For spares, we often deliver in 24 hours unless it’s an older or bespoke item.

Yes — all our modernisation work is carried out to meet LOLER, PUWER, and relevant BS EN standards. We ensure any upgrades are thoroughly tested and commissioned for safe, long-term use.
