Granada’s 24 metre span cranes helping to boost R&D at Baxi Heating HQ

Granada Crane Baxi Heating

Last week, Granada completed installation of 2 1-ton electric overhead travelling cranes designed and built for Baxi Heating’s Preston Headquarters to facilitate the production of made-to-order industrial units.

The contract is part of a period of significant investment by Baxi in its Preston site, supported by their parent company, BDR Thermea Group – world leading manufacturers and distributors of sustainable, smart climate and sanitary hot water solutions and services – and involves the consolidation of Baxi’s R&D activity in Preston, creating new jobs within the region.

Granada were awarded the contract based on their track record for quality, safety and innovation, demonstrated through many years’ experience of the design and installation of lifting and handling equipment for a broad range of sectors, including construction, offshore and renewables, automotive and manufacturing.

For Baxi, Granada needed to come up with a design to meet the requirement for uncompromised use of floorspace in a relatively small building to allow for the safe and efficient movement of operators below the cranes, in an area filled with production systems. Their solution was to mount the 1-ton travelling cranes onto knee brackets, mounted to the building’s columns and both cranes were installed last week, after successfully negotiating the very tight access for the 24m beams.

Martin Maddocks, sales engineer at GMH comments,
“Granada were very pleased to be selected for this contract by Baxi, a household name in the UK with a reputation for excellence going back to the 1860’s. We are particularly happy to be able to contribute to a project that will boost manufacturing and engineering capabilities in the North. It’s gratifying to see our industrial expertise recognised and we look forward to continuing to support Baxi.”
